"CORNET CHOP SUEY"
Hi Friends, Family & Everyone else.
2016? Where the heck did 2015 go? It seems like I was just putting away the Christmas decorations for 2014. No! It was 2015. I need to catch up on reality. Okay. Now I'm caught up.
A lot happened this past 2015. I was gone a large part of it thanks to "Wally's Warehouse Waifs". Dave Tatrow, the leader of this 8 piece musical marvel is one of my most favorite people to perform with. He is a nonstop purveyor of great music and comedy. He is more than a band leader, he is a friend. Love this guy. This past year "WWW" has traveled to Decatur, IL., Seaside, OR., 3 Rivers, CA, Madison, WI., Penticton, BC., Pismo Beach, CA., Clearwater, FL., and to top it all off, we went on a 12 day cruise to the Caribbean thanks to Jazzdagen Tours. It looks like 2016 will be just as busy with tours starting in February. I love this stuff.
On a different note, I was fortunate enough to travel and perform on a 5 week tour with the amazing "Cornet Chop Suey" Jazz Band, from St. Louis, MO., and we had a blast. We would play in a different city almost every night. The traveling was not as hard as you might think. Your in a van, in my case, with 3 other band members traveling down the road talking about music and musicians from all over the world. What could be more fun? I had such a wonderful time performing with all of the guy's in that band. I made some great friends on that tour.
Ahoy! Come Celebrate New Years Eve with Jazzdagen Tours on a cruise to the Mexican Riviera. The cruise will feature: Wally's Warehouse Waifs", Tom Rigney & Flambeau, and The Peter Meijer Quartet. New Years Eve will be a BLAST. You won't want to miss this one. We set sail aboard Holland America's, Ms Westerdam, from December 31st, 2016 to January 7th, 2017. The cruise starts in beautiful San Diego, CA and sails to several great Ports of Call. I would love to see you join us for a fantastic cruise with a lot of great music and great fun.
The beat of life.
The Dick Maley Big Band, formally, the Lakeland Jazz Orchestra was established in March of 2006 as a local area rehearsal band. The group's original intention was to meet once a week to rehearse big band charts that were arranged by band members and local musicians who wanted to hear what their arrangements sounded like, when performed. What happened was, the band sounded very professional and Dick decided to see if he could get the group some paying gigs. No sooner had Dick started talking about the group, a phone call was received from an executive from the Santa Fe Catholic School, located in Lakeland, Fl. The school was looking for a band to perform at their yearly Silent Auction, held at the "Lakeland Center". This was to be the start of many such calls for the "DMBB".
The "DMBB" have made quite a home and name for themselves in the Lakeland area. Since their inception the group has polished their performances and added many needed dance tunes to their expanding repertoire of big band music.
The band has been rewarded for their investment of time and rehearsals with several notable performances over the past few years. One of their greatest accomplishments was their performance with the talented recording artist, Chris Vadala, lead sax man for Grammy award winning artist, Chuck Mangione.
